Overview

Welded wire mesh is a square mesh structure made by resistance welding longitudinal and transverse steel wires at each crossing point. Square welded wire mesh is widely used for fencing, screening, protection, construction reinforcement, industrial partitions and various fabricated wire mesh products.

According to different applications, welded wire mesh can be produced in rolls or panels. Although the basic production principle is similar, the equipment and manufacturing process are different. Welded wire mesh rolls are usually made with smaller wire diameters and offer a certain level of flexibility, making them suitable for easy installation and large-area coverage. Welded wire mesh panels are normally produced with heavier wires, providing better rigidity, flatness and structural support.

Galvanized Welded Wire Mesh

Galvanized welded wire mesh is available with cold galvanized or hot dipped galvanized surface treatment. Cold galvanized welded mesh has a brighter and smoother surface, making it suitable for general corrosion protection requirements with more competitive pricing. Hot dipped galvanized welded mesh has a thicker zinc coating and provides better long-term rust resistance, making it suitable for environments with higher corrosion resistance requirements at a moderate cost.

PVC-coated Welded Wire Mesh

PVC-coated welded wire mesh is covered with a protective PVC layer on the wire surface. This coating not only improves the product’s weather resistance, but also offers various color options, such as green, black and other customized colors, allowing the product to better match different usage environments.

Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh

Stainless steel welded wire mesh is made from stainless steel wire and offers better corrosion resistance than ordinary carbon steel welded mesh, making it suitable for conditions requiring resistance to acid, alkali, salt or humid environments. Common grades include 304 and 316. Grade 304 is suitable for environments with higher general corrosion resistance requirements, such as chemical, coastal, medical and food-related applications, while grade 316 contains molybdenum and provides better resistance to acid, salt spray and chloride corrosion for more demanding environments.

The service life of welded wire mesh depends on the wire material, surface treatment, coating thickness and use environment. Cold galvanized welded wire mesh is suitable for general corrosion protection and can usually be used for about 2–3 years. Hot dipped galvanized and PVC-coated welded wire mesh generally provide better long-term rust resistance in outdoor environments, with a service life of about 10–12 years. Stainless steel welded wire mesh is more suitable for humid, salty or corrosive environments and may last 30 years or longer under suitable conditions. To choose the most suitable product, please provide the specific use environment and expected service requirements.

Galvanized before welding means the steel wire is galvanized first and then welded into mesh. This option usually has a smoother surface and more competitive cost, but the zinc layer at the welding points may be affected during welding.

Galvanized after welding means the mesh is welded first and then galvanized as a finished product. The zinc coating can cover both the wire surface and welding points more completely, providing better corrosion resistance, especially for outdoor or higher anti-rust requirements.

The weight of welded wire mesh is usually estimated according to wire diameter, mesh opening and product size. Steel wire weight per meter can be calculated by wire diameter² × 0.00617, then multiplied by the total wire length. Actual weight may vary due to wire tolerance, galvanizing, PVC coating and production differences.
